How to Check the Spread for an Asset?

The spread is the difference between the buy (ask) and sell (bid) prices quoted for an asset. Spreads are dynamic and fluctuate based on market conditions and liquidity. Here is exactly how you can check the real-time spread for any instrument on your chosen trading platform:

On cTrader

Finding the spread on cTrader is built right into your main workspace.

  1. The Watchlists Panel: Look at the Finder or Watchlists panel on the left side of your screen. Next to each instrument, you will see the current Bid and Ask prices. The spread is the small number displayed right between or next to them.

  2. The Active Symbol Panel: For a more detailed view, click on any instrument in your watchlist. This opens the Active Symbol Panel (typically on the right side of your screen), which prominently displays the exact, real-time spread in pips right above the Buy and Sell buttons.

  3. On the Chart: You can also right-click anywhere on an open chart, select Viewing Options, and make sure Ask Price Line and Bid Price Line are checked so you can visually see the spread in real-time.

On TradeLocker

TradeLocker keeps the spread front and center before you execute any trade.

  1. The Order Panel: Select the instrument you want to trade from the Instruments list on the left side of your screen.

  2. Look at the Order Panel (the section where you input your lot size and execute trades, usually on the right side).

  3. The real-time spread is displayed clearly in points/pips right between or just below the large red Sell and green Buybuttons.

  4. On the Chart: Similar to cTrader, you can visually track the spread on TradeLocker by clicking the Settings (gear icon) above your chart, selecting Scales, and ensuring the Bid and Ask labels/lines are turned on.
